Elizabeth Cullen’s Faith Is Pushed to the Limit in ‘Diabolic’ Trailer [Exclusive]

Something sinister is brewing in Collider’s exclusive debut of the trailer for Daniel J. Phillips’ (Awoken) upcoming horror flick, Diabolic. Blending faith with mental health struggles and a heavy helping of demonic power, the movie has all the makings of being the genre’s latest standout hit. Driving the storyline is Elizabeth Cullen (The Last Anniversary), with supporting performances from John Kim (The Librarians), Mia Challis (Outer Banks), Robin Goldsworthy (Sleeping Beauty), and Genevieve Mooy (The Battle for Jericho).

Plagued by a string of blackouts, Elise (Cullen) struggles to separate fact from fiction in the trailer for Diabolic. Experiencing breaks in reality, we see her questioning her every waking moment, which eventually drives her to reach out for help. But, in this case, help doesn’t come in the form of a therapist or doctor; it instead comes from a group of so-called “healers” from the Mormon church, of which Elise used to be a member. Fully embracing her last-ditch attempt to free herself from whatever negative energy is latching onto her, Elise goes all in with the LDS-based plan, which sees her drinking a mysterious beverage and taking part in some absolutely bonkers-looking rituals. After the church elders reveal that they’ve freed the troubled woman from an evil spirit, the terror cranks all the way up in a trailer oozing with blood, jump scares, and some incredibly unnerving long nails.

Following its release in Australia at the tail end of last year, the witchy horror flick is already receiving rave reviews from audiences who were downright terrified by every second. With the massive success that Danny and Michael Philippou have obtained through their films, Talk to Me and Bring Her Back, it seems like Australia is the new breeding ground for completely diabolical (pun intended) genre hits.

Meet the Creatives Behind ‘Diabolic’

In addition to helming Diabolic, Phillips also serves as one of the movie’s co-writers alongside Mike Hardin and Ticia Madsen. He also produces with Mark Patterson, Silvio Salom, Grant Hardie, and Vasili Papanicolou. The film is the latest to hail from Brainstorm Media, the company that also backed the recently released Brandon Auman’s psychological horror flick, Sleepwalker, which stars Hayden Panettiere, and Chris Foggin’s holiday-centered, Kiefer Sutherland-led Tinsel Town.
